What is ABA?
1
Information
ABA stands for Applied Behaviour Analysis. It is a scientific approach to understanding and modifying human behaviour. ABA focuses on applying principles of behaviour to improve socially significant behaviours and reduce problematic behaviours. It is widely used in various settings, including education, healthcare, and therapy, to support individuals with a wide range of behavioural and developmental challenges. It's important to note that ABA programs are highly individualized, taking into account the unique needs and goals of each person.
2
Autism
Autism, also known as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by persistent challenges in social communication and interaction, as well as restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities. The severity and manifestation of symptoms can vary widely among individuals with ASD. The areas of concern are: Skill Development, Behavior Reduction,Social Skills, Communication,Behavior Management,Generalization and Maintenance.
Together, we can unlock a brighter future for individuals with autism, helping them lead fulfilling lives and achieve their goals
3
Behavior Concerns
ABA can be instrumental in creating a program for addressing behavior concerns for all individuals. However, developing an effective behavior program requires expertise in behavior analysis and may involve consultation with qualified professionals, such as behavior analysts or therapists experienced in ABA.
Developing an ABA-based program for behavior concerns includes:
Identify and Define the Behavior Concern
Conduct a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA)
Set Behavioral Goals and develop
Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP)
Implement Strategies and Techniques
Data Collection and Analysis
Generalization and Maintenance, AND
Ongoing Evaluation
🌟 Pivotal Response Training (PRT)
At Harmonic Mind, we proudly offer Pivotal Response Training (PRT) as part of our ABA services—an evidence-based and child-centered approach designed to create lasting, meaningful change.
🔑 What is PRT?
PRT focuses on teaching pivotal behaviors—core skills that serve as the foundation for broader developmental progress. By targeting these key areas, children are more likely to show improvements across multiple domains without needing to teach each individual behavior separately.
Core pivotal behaviors include:
-
Motivation
-
Responsiveness to multiple cues
-
Self-management
-
Initiation of social interactions
✅ How It Works
Unlike traditional, structured approaches like Discrete Trial Training (DTT), PRT is implemented in natural settings using play, daily routines, and the child’s interests to promote learning. For example:
-
Offering choices to increase motivation and reinforcing efforts—not just correct answers
-
Encouraging children to initiate communication and interactions on their own
-
Teaching children to follow multiple-step instructions using descriptive cues (e.g., “Bring me the big red ball”)
